Manual Drilling and Sampling of Soil

The equipment for manual drilling (HAS-K for its acronym in English), is conformed of struts and stainless steel connecting rods, hammer, collector of cores and other accessories. The HAS-K, comes in a special plastic case which facilitates its transportation to the place of work and is widely used in surface sampling of soft soils and granular composite material clay, silty and sandy. Its handling is simple, although demand a significant physical strength by the driller who by the handle type transmits force turning and pushing and even reloading on this its own weight. As it progresses will be connected rods of stainless steel until it finds greater depth.

The sampler is a hollow barrel of 2 and 3 inches concentric helical blades of stainless steel on its lower side. It is screwed to the handle with which can start drilling and assembling more rods as needed to reach up to the depth specified for the sample. Once achieved the desired depth, is to change or wash the barrel perfectly for the sample of interest, which, once recovered, it is removed from the interior of the barrel and is deposited in a bottle previously conditioned and prepared according to the parameters to be analyzed.

All samples obtained in field are evaluated in visual way to know the composition of the soil, scoring in litho logical logs observed according to American Society for Testing Materials (d) 2488-90; Standard Practice for Description and Identification of Soils (Visual-Manual Procedure).

Main Applications

Extraction of soil samples, for their visual assessment, gas measuring and laboratory analysis.

Before starting the activities of sampling, is a thorough cleaning of the casing, the tool and the equipment sampler. To ensure that there is no contamination to the soil, due to the inter contamination one survey to another or a sampling interval to another.

This is carried out on the basis of the procedures defined in the method ASTM-D 5088-90 Standard Practice for Decontamination of Field Equipment Used at Nonradioactive Waste Sites.

Normally and according to the characteristics of the sites where is going to carry out a manual sampling, the equipment is often supplemented with:

1.-Breaking concrete equipment, which is used in places where is necessary to break floors, slabs of concrete structures to carry out the sampling.

2.- Coring, this is used for extraction of core concrete of thickness equal to or less than 30 cm. This equipment drills concrete to subsequently use the HAS-K and facilitate sampling.

It has a drill bit of 3.5 inches in diameter with Crown of tungsten even cutting the rod of reinforced concrete.
