The origins of Corporación Ambiental de Mexico, S.A. de C.V. (CAM) in 1991, when as part of the boom of decentralization of public entities and the possibility of a free trade agreement with North America, and the wave of opening of foreign consultancy firms offices in our country, Sergent, Hauskin & Beckwith (SHB) with more than 20 offices and nearly 30 years of history in the Midwest of the United States, decides to start a joint venture with a small group of Mexican businessmen. The seed is sown and slowly, SHB de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., begins to make a name in the environmental area.
At the end of 1993, SHB is incorporated to AGRA, the Canadian giant, composed of 5 major divisions ranging from the construction of buildings and roads, to the recycling of products on a large scale, through areas of analytical service (Labs), quality (certification of ISO standards), and environmental. As a result, the office in Mexico changes its name to AGRA Ambiental, S.A. de C.V., joining the AGRA Division Earth & Environmental, Inc., based in Toronto, Canada.
Following the economic situation that our country suffered between 1994-1995 and administrative complications by the merger of many of its regional offices, AGRA is forced to apply strong budget cuts and refocuses its investment plans, giving as a result the cessation of activities in at least 18 regional offices and the delimitation of some of its traditional service areas as it was the drilling of soils.
In Mexico, AGRA opts to sell its stocks to their Mexican shareholders/members, who acknowledging the excellent reputation and relying on the strength of our country, continue the business and, in September 1995, Corporación Ambiental de México, S.A. de C.V. (CAM) is formalized. |
